A'Sharqiya

With eleven wilayats, this is one of the most densely populated regions in Oman. The sea offers a lot to the visitor along with fertile wadis, dramatic gorges. A necklace of coral reefs lies along beautiful coastline abundant with wildlife. 

Sur
Sur has a nearly ideal location in the northeast province of Sharquiya and is a seafaring town, a fishing village and a trading port all in one. The highlight of the town is the dhow builder's yard on the coast just beyond the town.

Sur started trading activities with the African coast as early as the 6th century A.D. A walk through its labyrinthine streets reveals many fine old houses with carved doors, arabesque windows and other intricate details.

A major LNG  (liquified natural gas) plant is situated in Sur.

Sur Harbour And Boat Yard 
A sea-faring town with wide beaches, Sur is still an active shipbuilding centre, with dhows constructed directly on the beach.

Maritime Museum 
A small but interesting museum which holds much for the visitor.

A’ Rawdah
This ancient city has two forts. One was recently renovated and a climb to the top offers splendid views of the wadi and the large date plantations.

Al Fat’h
The village has a racing track and is famous for camel and horses racing

Ras Al Hadd 
A fort here is 450 years old with three towers overlooking the sea, which gives a splendid view. 

Ras Al Junayz 
The oldest known calligraphy in the Arabian peninsular is found here. Visitors from all over the world come to see the green turtles nestling in thousands on the sands. 

Wahiba Sand
Visitors delight in the rolling sand dunes that stretch over 180 kms.; the colours of which range from deep red to rich honey. 

Alashkharah 
A large busy shipping village which also has a scenic beach. 

Other Places Of Interest 
Old souq of al Mudaybi; Sinaw souq; al Yahmadi well known for its horse racing track.
